BRITISH EVACUATION. ARRANGEMENTS DISCUSSED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 17. / General Sir William Thwaitres, Com-mander-in-Chief of the British Army on the Rhine, to-day visited the War Office, and had consultations regarding the evacuation and movement of the troops. It is understood on good authority that the full time-table will be completed. The position of many who may temporarily b® out of employment on tlieir return to civic life has also been under consideration. General Thwaites is returning to Wiesbaden almost immediately.
H.M.S. QUEEN ELIZABETH. • FRIHNDLY VISIT TO TURKEY. RUGBY, September 17. The battleship Queen Elizabeth, the aircraft-carrier Courageous, three destroyers, and the Commander-in-Chief’s yacht, Bryony, will, at '.the invitation of the Turkish Government, arrive fit Constantinople:on October 12th for a stay of nine days. Arrangements have been made to provide for the visit of tl& Commander-in>Ciiief to .the. "Prime 'Minister.at' Angora/ and '/his, reception by the President, Mustaplia Kemal Pasha, in dr hear Constantinople. This will be the first occasion on‘ which a British- Naval - Squadron ’ has passed through the Dardanelles since the crisis of 1922. . The Queen Elizabeth, the flagship off the Mediterranean Fleet, played am-im-portant part in the operations against the Dardanelles during the War. The Courageous is Britain’s latest aircraftcarrier, of 18,600 tons, with a speed of 31 knots.
BRR*SH UNEMPLOYMENT. RUGBY, September 17. The total number of unemployed on September 9 was 1,149,700. This was 2540 less than the week before, and 150,227 less than a year before.
