Captain Loriard, master of the steamer Moeraki, was ' fined ‘£3oo for having prohibited immigrants on his vessel, Loriard stated the Chinese were aboard without his knowledge and they being prohibited, immigrants were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
N.Z. DEBATERS SUCCESS. SYDNEY, September 20. The New Zealand debaters, Messrs Stallworthy, McLeod, and Hurley, scored a second victory for their university, winning by an overwhelming majority. The New Zealanders affirmed that business is too much with us.
