TWO FIRES

a Karlrow ESCAPE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) ' \ AUCKLAND, September 20. Mrs .A. Payne, with two children, 24 and 2 months, had a narrow escape from Burning when a. house at Newmarket was destroyed early this morning. After struggling to the front door it was so warped with heat that she could not open it. With a grip on the children she battled her way down a passage, through dense smoke to ,tlie living room and fought her way to a window; where she dropped the children on the ground outside, as the flames overtook her. A block of buildings containing two shops'(including a 'post office), store and garage was totally destroyed by fire at midnight at Panmure. They were owned by Mr J. B. Tanner.
