RIP VAN WINKLE

Next Thursday at the Princess Theatre, the comic, opera “Rip Van Winkle” will be staged for the last time as a benefit for the Hokitika Fixe Brigade. It is very good of Mrs Staveley and the talented company to present the benefit entertainment, and the public will appreciate the opportunity of again enjoying the production and assisting a vei’y worthy cause at the same time. The opera “Hip Van Winkle” does not need much introduction locally now. Its late successful presentation is still fresh in the minds of the people for the opera had a very happy reception at the hands of a pleased public. It will be recalled that the play was produced in very striking form. The dressing and mounting were equal to professional standard, while the musical and histrionic entertainment was of a very high order indeed, and left little to be desired. To popularise the benefit and give all an opportunity of helping, prices are fixed at low rates, and there is not any booking fee. Seating in the reserved part of the house will be at a premium, the booking being so substantial. Front seats down stairs will lie 3s, stalls 2s, and back seats Is. The overture will be rendered at 7.50 o’clock.
