BORING FOR OIL
GOOD PROSPECTS AT OMATA. AUCKLAND, Sept. 14. Boring for oil is to be commenced shortly at Omata, near Now Plymouth, by Coal Oil (N.Z.), Ltd. The manager, Mr A. E. Thomas, arrived in Auckland on Saturday from Taranaki. Mr Thomas said Coal Oil (N.Z.) Ltd., was formed in September, 192(3, to investigate the possibilities of oil production at Omata, Mount Arthur,» near Dannevirke, and other places. For the past two years Herr Klbof, of the Geophysical Survey Organisation of Germany, had been conducting an extensive survey at Omata on a site recommended by the company’s chief geological expert, Dr L. Bossard, of Zurich University, who had spent four years making geological surveys throughout the Dominion. In a recent report Dr Bossard stated that the Omata area of 400 acres could be considered as an established oil field.
