SPEED RECORD
ORLEBAR SUCCEEDS
(United Press Association—By Electric '1 elegraph—Copyright).
London, sept, 13,
It was announced at Calshot that Orlebar reached a mean speed of 350.7 miles per hours. The fastest lap was done at 365.1 miles per hour. LONDON, Sept, 13.
Orlebar made six runs up and down the course. He made a record, which displaced his previous one of 355 point 7 miles an hour, and it will be duly submitted as Britain’s claim to the world’s speed record. It was first thought, with stopwatch timing, that the speed was practically the same as on Tuesday, but there was great satisfaction at Calshot when it was learned that the earlier performance had been exceeded.
The corrected figures were discovered after the record, by a special electrical timing apparatus. This was worked out and a film was developed.
