THIEVES AT WORK

(Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 14. There were three sensational holdups by masked gunmen in the suburbs last night. At Ryde, a postal official was bailed up in the post' omce 'and robbed of y £4, tot a gunpoint. An attempt was made to open a safe which failed. At Glebe, an hour later, a shopkeper was tackled by a gunman who demanded money. The desperado ran away.

f- At Rozelle, an hour later, a bandit who had held up the proprietor of a store and stolen £2O, was chased by the police; A gun duel followed wlierein a dozen shots were fired. Constable Grinham was shot through the groin and later taken to the hospital. His assailant escaped. • Posses of police seairched the districts throughout the night. It is believed all the outrages were the work of thd same gang.
