Prolonged drought prevails in the Anreir.ine. It is so serious that a crisis is noar, and many grain crops will not be saved even if rain falls '•hortlv. Santa Fe province reports fifty per cent of its wheat is already lost. It is problematical whether the balance can he saved. Farmers in many sections are ploughing up wheat and flax to replant maize in the hope of partially recovering losses.

W. M. Berks, of Montreal, in a presidential address before the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Convention at Edmonton to-day, urged greater inter-Empire trade. Empire free trade, be believed, was not vet practical, but freer trade was. if at the same time an economic blockade to the south was faced.
