SEVERE SNOW STORM
MUCH DAMAGE DONE. (Received this d.nv at 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 11. Snow caused a fire, which fused tlie electric light wires and plunged practically the whole of the larger towns on Blue Mountains into darkness. The snow weighed so heavily on the limb of a tree in Ivatoomba that the limb fell across electric wires which came in contact with telephone wires. A transformer box burst into flames and electric lights 'failed immediately. Snow in some places was the heaviest for thirty years.
An Antarctic cold, howling gale, driving rain, and wind-lashed sea, -were Sydney’s lot throughout the night and continuing this morning. Vessels are sheltering along the coast. Blinding squalls were responsible for many motor accidents. Six people wore seriously injured and sent to hospital. Many small boats in the harbour ux?re swamped and houses and sheds were unroofed in th.o suburbs.
