ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
MAN JUMPS OFF GRAFTON BRIDGE. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND Sept. 11, Joseph Otway, 62, formerly a wellknown Auckland representative Rugbj player in 1887-1898,. and recently , employed as a blacksmith, plunged over Grafton Bridge at 10.30 this morning. He fell into a gully 150 feet belo.w and sustained .spinal injuries. He is not expected to recover. • Wien picked up he said: “I am sorry to put you to this trouble. I have been working hard all my life and wanted to end it. I had two drinks just to get my blood:” Otway was one of the best centre forwards Auckland has had for a number of years. He was on the > shore staff of the Kaipara Steamship Coy. at ITelensville. Otway is a widower with a large family.
