RECORD FLYING. SPEED OF 355.8 MILES AN HOUR

LONDON, September 10

It is officially announced that Orlebar created a world’s record speed of 355.8 miles an hour, Stainforth 33G.3. Orlebar’s best lap was 36818 miles. Tin return laps against the wind lowered the average.

AERIAL SPEED TESTS (Received this day at 12.25. p.m.' RUGBY, Sept. 10. Orlebar, in a speed test, flew : the Super-Marine Rolls Royce 5.6, in which Wagnorn won the Schneider Cup, while Stainforth flew the Gloster-Napier 6. which did not take part in the Schneider Cup race. Orlebar made four flights over n 3-kilometre course. Stainforth made five.

Orlebar’s feat is a particularly brilliant’ one in view of the handicap Imposed by bad weather conditions. Visibility was very poor and the mist often hid the machines.from the spectators. Stainforth’s effort in the GlosterNapier was also very good when it is considered that visibility during his flights was even worse than when Orlebar made his attempt.

Orlebar is expected to make another attempt on Thursday morning, and if the weather conditions are propitious ,u is confidently believed be will exceed his present record by at least 15 miles an hour.
