WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th. The Board met at 8 p.m. Pres-ent:—-Messrs J. J, Breeze (Chairman), G. Davidson, J. L. Turner, A. R. El cock, R. Meharry, W. Jeffrie?-, E. A. Wells, T. W. Duff, and .W. H. Evenden. The minutes were confirmed tnid outward correspondence approved. MOTION OF SYMPATHY.'*"' The Chairman moved that the Board place on record its deep regret and convey its deep sympathy in the bereavement suffered by Mr B. Lyons, of Stafford, a member of the Hospita l Committee in earlier j ears. Seconded by Mr Duff and carried in .silence members standing. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
From Hospital Department in ' regard to balance sheet.—Received. From same stating he was recommending a. grant of £2OO for repairs to Maternity Home.—-Received. From R.. Meharry thanking Board for motion of sympathy.—Received. From Hospital Department notifying alteration to regulations.—Received. From Hamilton Board notifying deputation to Cabinet in regard to payment of Maintenance fees Maoris.—Received.
From Canterbury Board forwarding statement for period for patients at Sanatorium. —Received. From Dr. Baird applying for leave. —Received and action of Chairman in approving was confirmed. From W. Bacon, resigning position at Old People’s Home.—Received and agreed to. Mr T. Woodburn was appointed to the position. From J. Souter, ward mate, applying for annual leave.—-Received and request granted. From Druids Lodge, No. 89, in regard to maintenance arrangements for members, stating consideration bad been deferred.—Received. From W. H. Evenden, Kumarn, stating further consideration was being given by Oddfellows Lodge to charges for inmate members. —Received.
From F. Lf Turley, Timber Workers Union in regard to presentation of membership tickets.—Received and considered satisfactory. REPORTS. The Chairman of the House Committee (Mr G. Davidson) reported on various matters in connection with the institution. The Report was received and approved and in. accordance therewith it was resolved to procure some ten sheep for grazing purposes and necessary wire fencing to shut ;,i.hem off the main grounds. The Health Inspector is to be asked to inspect a pensioners home, the Chairman to take any action considered necessary.
The Surgeon Superintendent reporting patients in hospital on Ist August were 18 males, 20 females 38. Admitted during month 25 males, 21 females. Total treated 41 males, 43 females—B4 . Discharge (1 cured 19 males, 25 females; relieved 1 male, 3 females; died 4 males, 1 female. Total discharged, 24 males, 29 females —53. Remaining in hospital 31st August, 19 males, 12 females—3l. In hospital for over two months, B.—Received. Accounts amounting to £348 15s 6d were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts, £992 12s Bd, payments £BB4 7s 2d, credit balance £65 5s sd.—Received. The next meeting was fixed for October I.4th. The Board rose at 8.40 p.m.
