MERGER COMPANY. (A’lfltralian Press Association) (Received this day at 11 n.m.) LONDON, September 4. It is authoritatively stated the Empire beam and telegraphy systems are being handed over to the merger company at the end of September. It was also stated that the Post Office, which was originally getting to work the beams at a small profit, found it converted such a large surplus through the growth of the traffic that it was contemplating a substantial cut in rates before the merger was mooted. This prospect had definitely evaporated because it was pointed out the basis o f capitalisation of- the merger precluded the chance of a reduction for a long time ahead, though there was little of any increase regarding wireless telephony to Australia.
It was stated it would he at least six months before ia commercial service was instituted. This would be definitely retained in the hands of the Post Office.
