CRICKET

CRICKET RULES

REVIEW OF SEASON,

1 United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright)

(Received this dnv at 9. a.m.) LONDON, Sept, 2

Reviewing the County cricket season, Syd. Southerton considers the larger wickets were responsible for a larger proportion of definite results. Bowlers on the whole bowled more regularly at the stumps. The increased size did not affect really first class batsmen, ■hut lesser lights found their abilities somewhat curtailed. Many prominent cricketers desired that the larger wickets should remain. Hobbs, Sandham, Rhodes, Sutcliffe and Leyland all favoured them, but most of these did not. favour the new leg before rule. Many bowlers favoured it but Southerton thought the objections to the rule would outweigh its supposed benefits. He gathered that a majority of cricketers thought likewise.
