SYDNEY, September 1

The Federal Government's new liquor taxes have brought up prices of beer. Over the counter beer is now to cost one penny per glass or pint extra. Thus the half pint will be raised in price from fourpence to fivepence and the, pint from eightpence to ninepenoe.

The .retail rate of whisky will be ;increased from eightpence to ninepence per nobbier. The Victorian hotel-keepers are only increasing the price of bottled ales and spirits, and similar action is being taken in'Queensland.

ROBBERY UNDER ARMS

MELBOURNE, Aug. 31

The police have arrested two men in connection with the Lake Boaao hold up. One is charged with shooting with intent to murder and the other with assaulting Elcoate and with an attempt to rob him while armed.
