CLOTHING INDUSTRY

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL ’ ' PROTECTION.' WELLINGTON, August 29. A large deputation representative of employer's and employees in the clothing trades was introduced to the Hon J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Industries and Commerce, to-day. The speakers/in addition to Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., who introduced them, were Mr F. R. Cooke, of Christchurch, on behalf of the employees, and Mr J. Markham, of "Wellington, on behalf of the employers.

The deputation asked-' for additional protection for the industry, especially ' against shoddy goods, also for the sotting up of an Industries Development Board. It was shown by the speakers that the industry was on the-decline. The Minister, in reply, expressed his sympathy with the object of the deputation, and said that he would represent the matter to his colleagues. He spoke hopefully in regard to the prospects of an Industrial Development Board, being set up.
