KING GEORGE V. HOSPITAL

TO BE DONE AWAY WITH

IT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT

WELLINGTON, August 24,

King George V. hospital on Pukekohe Hill, Rotorua, is to be done away with, according to a. Cabinet decision announced by Sir Joseph Ward. He said it was intended to erect a building in the Government grounds to take the place olf the present sanatorium and to act as a hospital for Rotorua cases.. The present King George V. hospital was- a temporary structure erected to deal in wartime with returned wounded soldiers. It was now in a bad state and was very expensive to maintain, while the existing sanatorium was out of date and needed replacing. To have two institutions combined under one roof would- do away with the present duplication of the staff and would in many other ways tend to be more economical and better working. He hnd given instructions for the immediate preparation of the plans.
