The Grey “Argug” states:—An Austin sedan car was proceeding along the i road at' Rocky Point, 16 miles from , Otira', about 7 o’clock on Sunday night, when the vehicle dashed over a sheer cliff, 40ft. high, into the Teremalcau River. Tiie car landed upside down, and was practically submerged in the water. The driver of the car, Mr J. W. Anderson a travelling representative of an ice cream cone manufacturer, of Auckland, together with a visitor 4rom Sydney, the only other occupant of the car, had a miraculous escape from death or serious injury, and but for minor bruises and abrasions, and a severe shaking, they were none the worse for their unenviable experience. The car was badly smashed,’and it was with considerable difficulty that they extricated themselves and gained the river bank. The luggage in the car was recovered by diving under the water, a portion of it having been thrown out as the car fell. Both men then made their way to Cunningham’s, about three miles along the road from the scene of the accident, where their immediate wants were attended to. The wrecked car has since been salvaged. By a strange coincidence, an Overland car, occupied by two opossum trappers, went over the cliff at Rocky Point, on Tuesday last,' glmost within a chain of the point where the previous accident occurred. Details are meagre concerning the latter mishap, but it is reported that both the trappers escaped serious injury.
