TEACHER’S SALARIES
KEW SCHEME CRITICISED. •7, AUCKL AN D, August 20.. A considered opinion on the Education Department’s new salary scheme for teachers has been framed bv the interim committee of the Auckland Branch- of the New Zealand Educational institute. The opinion of the committee v may. be briefly summarised in motions passed by the last meeting of c,ity7and suburban teachers ‘‘That , in -any schema of promotion to suit the new; salary, scheme, teachers' should have the right .to' apnl,y for ! positions; that' appointments should be made in accordance with grading;;that in cases of promotion or transfer, removal expenses should be paid; that in cases of non-ap-pointment and the transfer of lower graded teachers to the detriment of those of higher grading, ithe right of appeal should be granted; that grading bars for various divisions are too high... (This means that, though in a change over a great many teachers would not suffer -.immediately, they would have to mark time for a number of years at their present salary;) - ’
