WEDNESDAJ, AUGUST 21st., 1929. a. ' Present: Mr* B. Ward (Chairman), Messrs Win, Clayton, L. It. Gibb and J. Ryall. NEW MEMBER. The Chairman (Mr B. Ward) said in the absenbe of the Commissioner he desired to extend a welcome to Mr Gibb, a new member' of the Board. Mr Gibb was a well-knowp settler of South Westland, who had spent the whole of his life'in that part of the country, and his Knowledge of the district must be a very intimate one. He should be Av.ell qualified to sit as a member of the Board. The position of a member of the Board was a very important one, and the very close attention olf members is required to do justice to the/ various applicants, whether settlers or timber men. Mr Gibb was a young man and had many years "of service. He welcomed him to the Board table. Mr J. Ryall joined in extending a welcome to (Mr Gibb. He felt sure that his experiences in l South Westland will prove of value to members of the Board and the tenants of the State. Mr Clayton ‘endorsed the welcome. He felt quite sure, that he' will know some of the difficulties of the' back blocks settlers. ; • N . ) Mr W. Wilson, on behalf of the lari'” agents, congratulated Mr Gibb bn his appointment. He felt sure he would make a good member. Mr L. R. Gibb thanked them all for their' kind remarks.. He ha<Tconsidered it very . carefully before he had accepted the appointment. He would endeavour to carry out the duties to the best advantage. During Mr Chinn's term of service he had done his utmost for the fnent of settlement in the district. He regretted that hie had not been re-ap-pointed as a member. He did not know where the kick came and he did not think it was a fair one. / Mr Chinn had proved, a very valuable member of the Board, who wns always ready to voice the. opinions he had /, -formed.
