At the Supreme Court, Samuel Bates and Leslie Holland for ringingin the trotter Bruce, as Impel ml Thorpe, were sentenced to one year’s hard labour, by. Judge Adams. The Crown Prosecutor said the prisoners liacl committed, an impudent swindle. The Judge said the men had worked with the same dishonest minus to commit a fraud in which there was n possibility of a considerable profit to. themselves. Their hopes were disappointed, but that did not affect the nature and quality of their act. The senteneo must be a substantial one.
