EXTENSIVE EROSION
AT ARAPUNI HYDRO WORKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). HAMILTON, August 20. ' Extensive erosion about a quarter of a mile below the spillway at Arnpuni is causing the Public Works engineers some concern. It was learned to-day that if the erosion continued indefinitely, the spillway would be demolished. Yesterday Mr F. W. Furkert,\ Engineer in Chief of Public Works, inspected the hydro-electric works, and was understood to have made a certain recommendation for the relief of water accumulating near the waterfall. “The position is becoming serious, but no alarm need bo felt,’’ stated another official of the Department this afternoon. “We propose taking immediate steps to check erosion Probably it will be necessary to diver water below the spillway in other directions.”
