In an address at Saint John’s Church,i Birchgrove, Doctor Grottey (Bishop of Bathurst) made an attack upon ‘‘certain minorities who are keeping the people apart and are destroying fellowship in order that political programmes might -not bp thwarted.” He described it as the work of the Devil. ‘‘lt is po.use praying,” he said.' “It is time that professing Christians got out and did something.” The Bishop accused the wealthy classes of engaging in a pleasure chase and ignoring their re, sponsibility in social service. • They must get snobbery and social hate out of the church and out of the people.

An earth tremor lasting two minutes was felt at Broome on Saturday. Houses shook and windows rattled. No damage is reported. The. seismograph at Perth recorded a fairly severe earthquake which probably occurred in the oepan upd off the north-west coast about eleven hundred miles from Perth. T£> STOP PICKETING. SYDNEY, .August -19. , Premier Bavin stated that Cabinet was determined that mass picketing in. connection with a strike or any other industrial dispute, should he suppressed and men going about, their lawful occupations should he , protected from assaults. It is understood that if the present law is found inadequate to deal with the situation, amending legislation will be introduced next session.
