The manager of the Australian hockey team, on their arrival back from New Zealand to-day, said that hockey ranked second to Rugby Union football in New Zealand, where the play was of a very high standard.

Canterbury retained the New Zealand Hockey Shield, beating Auckland at Hngley Park to-day by two goals t~ one.
