KIA ORA’S RETURN
DUE TO LEAKING PLATE

WELLINGTON, August 19
Tho reason of the Kia Ora’s return was the discovery of'a leak, due to the corrosion of one of the “bell plates on the iport side in the vicinity of the stokehold. The ship not being deeply loaded, the plate wa c above the waterline and the influx oi water was easily kept down by pumps. Temporary repairs will be effected by rivetting an “Overall patch” over the defective plate and the vessel is expected to get awa,\ |? to-morrow.
The cargo was in no way affected
