DAMAGE-AT WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON, August ? 17.
Surprisingly little .damage,was done by,.a heavy .north-westgrly gale which reached p force of .68 miles per hour in .spasms, early this morning. The structures/ damaged consisted chiefly of .houses in the course of erection, sheds, fences, etc, . Two. houses being 'built., at Island Bay were rendered roofless. , ; The gale had a peculiar effect on a hall-completed. b«ik., storage tank for an import company’ at Lower Hutt, the tank being crumpled up like paper'.
Some scaffolding remaining on the upper portion of the D.I.C. building, on Lambton Qpay, commenced to flap in the wind, when a pole fell between two cars,. ■ The taxi -stand nearby was quickly! evacuated. The scaffolding was seOuredy
