It now costs a quarter of a million sterling to build the necessary series of super-speed machines, and to train the expert -pilots. . Hence the Governments are taking over the task. France has already withdrawn, and it is doubtful whether the United States’ solitary entry will develop sufficient speed, so that therefore the real contestants are likely to be only Britain and Italy.
