Dr Jtoss and Horton were throie down at the turn .of the first round, this being due to Apperley’s accuracy with long putts. Horton ivris driving well, arid he took the twelfth and thirteenth holes. Both drove long and sure, and they were out in 41, or one stroke less than New South Wales. At the seventh hole, Black’s drive was lying against the ’fence, and it was played out left-handed by Morpeth. At the eleventh hole, Morpeth led Harrison’s drive by fifty yards, but it was not till the sixteenth hole that the 'New Zealanders got one up, when Morpeth left Black a four-foot putt. Morpeth’s approach was too stro.ug ’aft the eighteenth, but .Morrison missed a two-foot putt, leriving the New Zealanders two up. Fawcett was ijn rare form, and Os Ajpperley was putting well, their play left little doubt ns to the concluding holes, they winning five up.

During the evening the rain increased. The New Zealanders did hot show to advantage.
