ROSS NEWS.
FOOTBALL. (From Our Own Correspondent). The Seven-a-side Tournament to take place at Ross 'next Saturday, 17th inst. promises to he a very interesting event. It- is understood the nominations will be numerous and a splendid sport should result. A silver cup will he awarded the winning team, to become the property elf any team winning it twice in succession or three times at intervals Each year a gold medal will also br awarded to each of the players of the winning team. At a meeting held on Thursday evening all details were arranged fo the competition day. The followi’ officials were appointed:—Timekeeper 1 ' A. W. Peebles and W. E. Clarke' Tmichline judges, W. Flaherty, Aj Mason, R. Richards and Jack Smith Call stewards: —J. Rochford, W. Blacklow, and T. 0. Adamson. Blackboard steward:—A.. W. Pitt. Protest Committee:—The'Union officials. It was decided to enter two Ross teams. £1 Is was voted to an injured school player now in hospital. A dance will be held in the Totarn Hall iri the evening. i VALEDICTORY. v Mr W. Windsor, who has acted as porter at Ross railway station, ha's been - transferred te Christchurch, having left on Saturday morning to take up his duties there. Mr and Mrs Windsor have spent about years in Ross during which time they have proved themselves good citizens. Mr Windsor has always been a most obliging official and his services have been appreciated. On the eve of his departure the staff of the local railway station with a number of business people met Mr Windsor. Mr Duffy; S.M., and other speakers, spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Windsor’s good qualities and asked his acceptance of a handsome clock as a slight memento of their esteem and wished him success and prosperity in his new locale.
Mr Windsor suitably replied thanking his friends for their kind wishes and valuable present.
Both Mr and Mrs Windsor were members of the local school committee and in this connection Mrs Windsor’s services especially will he missed. At the present time she is busily engaged in preparing a concert for school funds and in ‘capacities of like nature she has rendered good service, her elocutionary ability always being available where required. ON SIOK LIST. We are pleased to report- our genial friend “ Ball ” Clarke is quite well again, after spending several months in the Westland hospital. Our worthy Mayor (H. Osmers' Esq.) is at present an inmate of the Westland Hospital, having undergone a slight operation. We wish him speedy recovery.
