STRANDED SCHOONER
HOPES OF SALVAGE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 11. A wireless advice received by the • Northern Shipping Coy. on Saturday • stated that the auxiliary schooner Paroto, which was stranded at Crater Bay, White Island, during a seyere south-east storm on Wednesday night, is in a safe position if a storm does not develop again from the south-east. . The vessel is leaking, owing, to Carnage' to the bottom of the hull, but temporary repairs are. being effected. It. is hoped to i-efloat the vessel on Monday or Tuesday. *1 lie steamer Apanui, which’ took a salvage party to White Island, will remain to assist in the salvage work. The wind during the week-end has been very strong from the south-west and this may retard the refloating of the vessel.
