WELLINGTON, August 10, The Wellington short wave radio enthusiasts had very good reception from the Chelmsford (London) Station this morning, relaying from 2LO studio, London. was the presence of Kingsford Smith and Ulm, both of whom spoke. Smith was heard perfectly and not a word was missed. He' was non-committal regarding the further flights of the Southern Cross, which, he said, was being reconditioned ■in Ariisterdam, and put into thoroughly good order. He was having four new 1 English machines built for the projected aerial passenger 1 services in Australia, and he hoped to be back there at the beginning of November to show them “how to operate an efficient mail service.” Among the surprises of the evening at. the studio was the' •arrival ' of .Captain Barnard, who had just returned with the Duchess of Bedford, from their record-breaking flight to India and back, which they made in seven days:
