UNDERWORLD WAR
SENSATIONAL AFFRAY. SEVERAL PERSONS INJURED. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 9. Two men .were shot and Bruce Double Day Higgs, well-known in connection wi'iu the mountains murder case, was terribly slashed about the face early this morning in a sensational underworld affray. A woman sustained a cut on the hand and two other men were also injured, one nearly losing an eye in the battle, which the ponce believed was staged at Darlinghurst. The police know nothing of the affair and the victims refuse to speak.
Shortly after midnight four men and a woman visited the hospital. Two wounded men refused treatment and the other two and the woman were treated for cuts.
The police found signs of a battle at Darlinglmrst, huge pieces of stone lyincr in the roadway saturated with blood.
