PETROL EXPLODES
ON FRENCH CRUISER. (By Telegraph—Press Association), f ::::.. AUCKLAND,vAugust. 5.' J When officials and members of the French Club Were inspecting the cruiser lourville this morning; a’ loud explo-. sion shook the vessel. Instead of a, panic and attempts to quit the cruiser, people dashed to the upper deck, where hung a heavy cloud of smoke. Petrol, dripping from a small engine upon the plates of another engine under a platform where two airplanes are housed abaft the second (funnel, had exploded through a large ventilator. The only persons perturbed were a group inspec-. ting the airplanes when the explosion occurred.
