VALEDICTORY

Mr Pliil Ivortegast, who is shortly to take up his residence in;Christchurch, was last evening at Sty Mary’s Club Rooms, the Vguest of the Hibernian Society at a social evening. There was a good attendance of members present besides a number of visitors. Mr Ivortegast, who has been a member off the Hibernian Society for many years was always an energetic member and was held in the highest esteem by brothers of the lodge. Mr F. Groufsky. senr., presided over the gathering and on behalf of fellow brothers in a happy speech made the presentation of a travelling rug. Several other members spoke in eulogistic terms of the guest of the evening. Mr Kortegast suitably replied, thanking members for the feeling references made. During the evening supper was partaken throughout the course of which the customary toasts were honoured. Musical items were also given which added greatly to the enjoyment of the frinction.

A farewell gathering of friends of Mr Phil Kortegast met at the factory yesterday and made a small presentation of a travelling rug and umbrella as a remembrance of the very happy days they have spent with him. Mr Frank Rochford made the presentation on behalf of those present and spoke of sterling qualities and very good times all the pals of Phil had together and 'wished him every success. Mr Kortegast suitably replied. Messrs C. Friend,. Mi Mriridl, P. O’Connor, D. Dowell, J. Mercies, M. Patrick and R; Davies'all spoke a few words. Mr Friend proposed the toast of Mrs Phil Kortegast Avhich '.was-', drunk with honours. The little gathering concluded with “ For. He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and all wished him all sorts df jolly good luck in his new sphere in Christchurch. Songs were given .by D. Dowell. P. O’Connor, W. Thompson, M. Patrick, .P. Kortegast and H. Steel.
