HOCKEY

The hockey . ipatch on Cass Square yesterday between Hokitika and Uniteds was a hard-fought game and splendid exhibition of hockey was witnessed by a good attendance of spectators. Hokitika had slightly the better of the game, their forwards putting in some pretty passes and their halves ably supported them. United played a good defensive game, but their forwards lacked combination, several players . playing good individual games. Hokitika scorers were N. Olsen (2), E. Hutson (2) while United scored from a scramble in the circle. Mr Kilpatrick and.J. Butland ably controlled the whistles.

For the remainder of the game Otago tried hal'd to eiitch up, and came to grips with the visitors in the circle on many occasions. The forwards, however, were not shooting well, and all attempts on the goal were stopped by O’Connor. The. game ended with the home side attacking.
