WHAT THE MINERS HAVE LOST

(Received this day at 8.30- a.m.) NEWCASTLE, July 31. The coal mines here have been idle for 121 days, and it is estimated that the miners have each lost £254 by not accepting the proprietors’ offer of a shilling reduction. The average output of pit hands is about seven tons o'f coal daily, for whieli they were originally paid Gs lid per ton. The owners offer would have enabled each man to make 42s Id daily.
