Working secretly overnight behind hoardings, Soviet workman demolished the famous Shrine of the Iberian Virgin at the Iberian Gate, where the Tsars and all classes worshipped for 260 years. The Soviet Arctic expedition solemnly hoisted the Soviet flag on the uninhabited Frans Josef Land, indicating its incorporation in the Soviet’s territory.
