SOVIET AMBASSADOR MEETS MR. HENDERSON. (British Official Wireless.) (Received this day at 11.25. a.m.) RUGBY, July 29. The Foreign Secretary (Air Henderson) received the Soviet Ambassador in Paris (M. Dovgalewski) at the Foreign Office this morning. Their conversation lasted an hour and a-lialf. The present relationship between the two countries formed the subject of a friendly exchange of opinion. Air Henderson and M. Dovgalewski explained the points of view oi their two Governments. The Ambassador intimated to Mr Henderson that lie would report to his Government and hoped, to be in a position to resume the conversation to-morrow or Wednesday,
VALUABLE MANUSCRIPT. SECURED FOR BRITISH AIUSEUAI. RUGBY, July 29. The famous Lutrcil manuscript, one of the finest English medieval manuscripts, lias been privately bought by an anonymous purchaser for the British Museum, where it has been on loan for many years. It is understood the price paid was £30,000. The manuscript dates from 1340 and contains over 300 leaves lavishly illustrated in colours and gold. It’s acquisition was announced at a book sa’e at London today at which -003,000 was paid for Bedford’s Book of Hours, by Afessieurs Quaritch, well-known dealers, who.are holding it for eventual purchase by the British Museum. The price paid for this book, which dates from 1500 is the highest ever paid for any book prevately bought.
A CONFERENCE. RUGBY. July 29. A further conference was held at No. 10 Downing St. to-day, between the Prime Alinistor and the First Lord of the Admiralty on the one hand, and General Dawes and Air Gibson on the other. It is understood that substantial progress was made towards a naval agreement.
