EXPENSIVE ROAD

WHO PAID FOR IT?

WELLINGTON, July 25

The last has not been heard of the Waipu-Oakley wad. A further contribution was made by the Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Justice who told the House to-night that, when the-Min-ister of Public Works exposed the wanton extravagance of the Reform Government, the leader of the Opposition interjected that Air Ransom had forgotten to say the Waipu-Oakley road had not cost the Public Works fund a penny as it was the Highways Board which did it. “There is not one word of truth in that interjection,” declared Air Wilford, “and I have the authority of the head of the Public Works Department for saying it.” The Alinister produced an official memo to the effect that no portion of the cost of the Waipu-Oakley . road had been charged to the Highways fund, nor had any part of this road been declared a main highway.
