Some time ago Mrs Walter Scott, of Karangarua, South Westland, heroically' rescued Miss Wilson from drowning, by plunging into one of the treacherous south rivers when it was in high flood. Miss Wilson certainly would have been drowned had it not been for the action of Mrs Scott. The matter was brought before the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand by .the, Hon. t -H. L. Michel, who is one of their representatives on the West Coast. Tlie Council of the Society has, after full enquiries and receiving reports, from residents of South Westland, awarded iMrs iScott a framed certificate of merit for her bravery. Intimation has now 'been received that the certificate has been forwarded to South Wiastland for presentation on the first favourable public opportunity. The honour is a very marked one as the Council of the Society is very chary of merely presenting certificates or medals for those merdly doing their duty. There, must, always be, some outstanding . feature,, in '. connection;; with the rescue .before they y/ill recognise, it. Mrs Scott is to be;congra;tu- ( dated on the honour she has received.
