OBITUARY
HARRY L. BRITTAN. > AUCKLAND, July 22. Mr Harry Lytelton Brittan, who died.,.at his home, Mount Eden, last evening,..at- the age of seventy-seven, was a,,son of Mr William Guise Brittan, the’, first Commissioner off Lands for Canterbury, and well-known as one of the founders of that province, in which he landed from one of the first ■four ships bringing Canterbury pilgrims, in. 18/50.
; Harry Brittan was one of the first children bnrji at Lvttelton (in March, 1852). Mrs Brittan who survives him, is a. daughter of the late Rev. F. S. Grace, who, in the course of many years of missionarv work among the Maoris of the Auckland province; established the first Anglican mission at Taupo and later resided at Tauranga and Auckland. A brother of deceased is the Rev. F. G. Brittan, off Christchurch, who is living in retirement, nftei; fifty vears’ service as classical master at Christ’s College. A sister fs Mrs. Coates, ..widow of* Canon Coatqs 'tif Christchurch.
