TRAGIC ENDING
LATE MR D. ADAMSON. Followers of athletics in Wanganui on July 13th were very upset ..at the news of the tragic death of David Adamson, aged 22, while driving a tractor on Turakina Hill the previous afternoon. Deceased was a wellknown cyclist and footbailler, and had resided in Wanganui about five years. He had competed successfully in many cycle events in Wanganui, and in other similar fixtures throughout the North and South Island, and was. one of those who beat “Fatty” Lamb two summers ago in Wanganui. At toe time of his death he was the holder of the three miles West Coast championship, and also secured second fastest time.
He was a foundation member of toe Pirate Athletic Club and Wanganui Amateur Road Cycling Club, and was club captain of the -latter, and cycle champion of both. He represented toe WanganuiTaranaki Centre at the New Zealand championships at Auckland. Adamson was of a bright, cheerful disposition, and was very popular among toe young people. As a mark of respect to his memory Kaierau teams wore a black badge on the arm that afternoon. The remains of the late Mr D. Adamson were laid to rest on Sunday afternoon, July 14th, at the Aramolio cemetery, when a large gathering representing sporting bodies, and the community in general testified to the esteem in which the deceased had been held.
Til© Rev. W. Elliott conducted the service at the residence of Mr J. Moye and also at the graveside. This was of an impressive nature. There were many wreaths, the hearse being practically filled with them. The pall bearers • were Messrs E. J. Morgan, J. E. Rosoman (Pirate Athletic Club), H. Dustin (Wanganui-Taranaki Centre, N.Z.A.A.A.), O. Chainey (Wanganui Amateur Road Cycling Club),. B. V. Clarke (Wanganui Harriers), F. Sampson (Wanganui Athletic Club). Athletio r and cycling jbodies from the Wanganui and Taranaki district were represented.
