ARBITRATION COURT
WATERSIDERS’ DISPUTE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 19. The Arbitration Court, over which Justice Blair presided, was engaged to-day in hearing the Dominion Waterside "Workers’ dispute. The points in dispute included the basic or general cargo rate; the ratps* for repair work at Port Chalmers; the rates for handling coke; the sales for trimming coal, tne pay of the men employed in the wool stores, the pay of the men at the outports, and the minimum pay for men ordered back. The hearing is proceeding.
CLAIMS FOR EXEMPTION. WELLINGTON, July 19. The Arbitration Court is engaged to-day on the Watersiders’ dispute, in which rates of pay, conditions of work, hours etc., were referred to the Court. His Honour, Justice Blair, intimated after applications had been made for the exclusion of the Auckland Gas Company, and Sutherland and Pearson, that these would he heard at Auckland on August 19th. Cable and Co., and Niven and Co. engineering companies of Wellington, also sought exemption, and the Court intifnated it would consider the applications.
Mr Barsley, Secretary of the Otago Harbour Board, sought exemption on behalf of that body. Mr Roberts for the watersiders, said the Board was a shipowner, owning a hulk, dredge and two tugs. The Board received cargo in sheds through a contractor, and the Union must deal with the Board.
The Lyttelton Board is seeking exemption in respect to certain classes of work.
