’. • ■ *li> A At a meeting of the Canterbury Executive of the New Zealand branch of the British Red Cross Society held at Christchurch on -Monday last, with reference to the A Vest Coast earthquakes, the chairman reported he had ascertained from Sister Christian of the Red Cross Nursing Service, who is now in South Westland, that she would be agreeable to assist in relief 7 ' work, in the devastated earthquake • regions in the event of such work being necessary. The Mayors of Westport and i Greymouth had been in- . formed that the executive would place'-- - her services at the, disposal of a re- . lief committee wherever it was thought that she would be most useful. A reply had been received from the secretary of the Buller District Relief Committee stating that at present tliey did not require Sister Christian’s services, 'but should the occasion arise they would be pleased to avail themselves of her assistance. The chairman also reported that since the previous meeting a reply had been received from the Dominion executiv stating that the Canterbury Centre could appoint a suitable person to assist Sister Christian in her work. The chairman said'that Sister Christian hail been consulted as to the best course to-pursue tain”"the" best"results from this extension of Red Cross work. Several cases of sickness had been visited in the outlying districts and several cases had received advice over the telephone. IThe renort was received and it. was resolved that a letter of thanks be sent to various school teachers who had supervised the varidus examinations. -
