SERIES OF FRAUDS. tßy Telegraph, Per Press Association.j WELLINGTON, July 10. Thomas George Gillespie, aged 49, a clerk, was charged to-day, that between July, 1923, and May, 1927, he fraudulently failed to account for sums totalling £414 to the Lands Department. An Inspector of the Audit Department gave evidence , as to discovering irregularities, and said that it was by reason of the accused’s forgeries that they were not discovered earlier. To counsel, witness said that there had been no audit of these particular books for four ycai.s until 1928. There were now some changes in the system of booking being made. Changes, however, were being made prior to the discovery. There had been alterations to receipts which were very clumsily done, .and would be evident to a very casual inspection. . Gillespie pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence.

A Coronial inquiry into.the circumstances surroundisrr the deatli of Vn liani Dick, of Woodlands, who was found dead with a razor in his hand on June 30th. was concluded before Mr W. H. Woodward, Coroner, today., The evidence of Hugh Dick, brother of deceased, was that hit brother lived with their mother, and was frequently depressed owing to war disability. A vlcrd'ct of suicide whit in a state of temporary mental depression, was returned.
