BANK CLERK ARRESTED. (By Telegraph- -Per Press Association.)!. AUCKLAND, July 12. Samuel Fabian .Wills, 21, a clerk employed by the Bank of New South Wales, Auckland, was arrested last night and charged that on July 6 he forged the names of J. McWilliams and M. Pocoek to a bank draft for four thousand seven hundred pounds, causing the Bank of New South Wales to act upon it as genuine.
Chief Detective Hammond asking for a remand to July 19, said accused forged the names of an accountant and a clerk to the draft which was sent to New Plymouth*. He went there and got the money. ( J The sum of three hundred and sev-enty-five pounds was in his possession when arrested. The remand was granted.
HOMESTEAD BURNT. CHRISTCHURCH, July 12. A fire at Menzies’ Bay, Bank’s Peninsula, destroyed the homestead of Wm. Menzies. valued at over £4OOO and insured for half that amount. Valuable Maori carvings were lost.
