RHODES SCHOLARS

i ANNIVERSARY PROCEEDINGS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copj right). (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, July 7. Over four hundred former Rhodes Scholars assembled at the banqueting, hall at Rhodes House, Oxford, to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary. Mr Baldwin presided, and the Prince of Wales was the chief guest. There 1 were nineteen Australians and five New Zealanders amongst those present, headed by Tv. Sisan. For the first time since the war, Germany was represented. Three toasts were the King, the President of the United States, and the President of the Germany Republic. Mr Baldwin, toasting the memory of the founder, stated lie had received cable advices from Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the world, where Rhodes Scholars were holding similar celebration. He proceeded to announce on behalf of the trustees that it had been decided that scholarships should again be available for Germany.

Mr Baldwin explained 'that five scholarships which had been taken from Germany in 1916 would remain with the Dominions . but, that those now given would lie extra, thus enabling four German Rhodes scholars to attend Oxford. y-
