AMAZING DISCOVERY

MUMMIFIED SPANIEL. (By Telegraph—Press Association). PALMERSTON N., July 8. An amazing discovery was recently made on the premises of a Palmerston North firm, on opening a case which had been securely locked for five years, when it was found to contain an elaborate oak coffin of small dimensions with ornamental facings. The police were summoned and on removing the lid found an bermetical-lv-sealed case within. This was opened and they found the mummified body of a little black spaniel, which had been carefully embalmed, apparently a sentimental idiosyncrasy of the owner. The body was promptly destroyed, removing a penetrating odour which had led to the discovery. The case was entrusted to the care of the firm five years ago by a client, who said he would claim it in two days. He has not yet returned.
