THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

THE EARTHQUAKE AREA. The well-known ivacture, the Kongahui, runs down the coast from near Karamea, past Seddonville and Westport, and another, the Glasgow fault, runs inland in the direction of Lyell. Possibly the movements near Karamea extending along these fractures may be found to be the chief causo of the recent shock. Following the main shock of the .earthquake there Is usually a long series of small after-shocks and rumblings rapidly decreasing in number ,and intensity as the region settles down again into quiet, and the stresses being thus relieved a long period of stability may be expected.
