BY REACHING LONDON ON FRIDAY.-
CALCUTTA, July 3. Before the departure of the Southern Cross at 5 a.m. for Karachi, Lieutenant' Ulm declared that when they reached Karachi,> it would be necessary to check over the engines, and all would have some rest before beginning the hop to Baghdad, which was likely to be one of the riiost difficult stages of the flight.
“We wquld like to make a nonstop flight from Baghdad to London,” he said, “but each day as our information concerning the route is added to we find that there is less hope of accomplishing it, owing to the prevailing'winds and owing to the heavy load that the plane is carrying. It will be impossible, owing to the load to rise to the (altitude necessary to negotiate the mountains.” They are planning to fly (from Baghdad to Romo and then to London, which they hope to reach on Friday, thus easily breaking the record.
